-
- System requirements
- -------------------
-
- HoTMetaL PRO Evaluation runs under Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0.
- Your system must have the following, or higher:
- - 80486, 33MHz (Pentium recommended)
- - 16 MB RAM
- - Super VGA display, 256 colors, 640x480 resolution
-
-
- Installing HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 Evaluation Version
- ----------------------------------------------
-
- There were two options for downloading the HoTMetaL
- files over the Web. The steps for installing
- the product are different for each option.
-
- Option 1: If you downloaded the product in one piece,
- then the file "hm4ev.exe" should be present on your system.
-
- Option 2: If you downloaded the product in six pieces,
- then the files "hm4ev_1.exe", "hm4ev_2.exe", ..., "hm4ev_6.exe"
- should be present on your system.
-
- You will need approximately 20 Mb of temporary space
- in order to extract the temporary files from the archive(s),
- and another 40 Mb of free disk space in order to install
- and use HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 Evaluation Version.
-
- If you chose Option 1
- =====================
-
- 1. Double click on "hm4ev.exe".
-
- This will extract the HoTMetaL PRO files from the archive that
- you downloaded, and will start the HoTMetaL installer.
-
- During this process, you will be asked to indicate the
- Installation Directory (folder) into which the files should
- be extracted. This is a temporary folder that you will delete
- when the installation is complete.
-
- 2. Follow the instructions given by the installer.
-
- Note: if you already have HoTMetaL PRO 3.0, HoTMetaL Light 3.0,
- or HoTMetaL 3.0 Evaluation on your PC, *do not* install
- HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 Evaluation version in the same folder as
- any of these products.
-
- 3. You can now delete the file "hm4ev.exe", and the temporary
- installation folder and all the files and folders that
- it contains. Before you do this, it is good idea to
- make sure that the main components of HoTMetaL PRO (Editor,
- Information Manager, and Site Maker) can be launched successfully.
-
-
- If you chose Option 2
- =====================
-
- If you downloaded six files, carry out the following steps:
-
- 1. Double-click on "hm4ev_1.exe".
-
- This will extract part 1 of the HoTMetaL PRO files from the archive
- that you downloaded.
-
- During this process, you will be asked to enter the Installation
- Directory (folder) into which the files should be extracted.
- This is a temporary folder that you will delete when the
- installation is complete.
-
- 2. After all files in part 1 have been extracted, the process automatically
- continues by extracting part 2 (hm4ev_2.exe) and so on.
-
- Make sure to specify the *same* installation folder each time.
-
- You will get an error if:
- - you have not downloaded all 6 files to begin with
- (hmev4_1.exe .. hm4ev_6.exe)
- - or if you did not start by extracting part 1 (hm4ev_1.exe).
-
- You can easily correct this by downloading any missing files.
- Then start by extracting part 1 again (say "yes to all" to overwrite files
- that you extracted the first time.
-
- 3. After you have extracted all six parts into the installation folder,
- go to the installation folder and double-click on "Setup.exe" to install.
-
-
- 5. You can now delete the files "hm4ev_1.exe" through "hm4ev_6.exe",
- and the temporary installation folder and all the files and folders
- that it contains. Before you do this, it is a good idea to make sure
- that the main components of HoTMetaL PRO (Editor, Information Manager,
- and Site Maker) can be launched successfully.
-

-
-
- Possible installation problems
- ------------------------------
-
- Site Maker installer appears to fail
- ====================================
-
- Sometimes the installer for SoftQuad Site Maker appears to fail or
- terminate abnormally. Each time that we have experienced this,
- the Site Maker files have still installed successfully.
-
-
- Site Maker installation sometimes "hangs"
- =========================================
-
- If the Site Maker installation does not terminate within 10 minutes:
-
- 1. Interrupt the installation:
- a. Type Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
- b. Choose HoTMetaL PRO Eval Setup from the task list.
- c. Click on End Task.
-
- This will cause all files installed so far to be un-installed.
-
- 2. Re-run the installer by running setup.exe.
-
- 3. At a certain point in the installation you will see
- a dialog box with the following prompt:
-
- "Setup will now invoke the Site Maker Installer
- to install the Site Maker - this is required for proper
- functioning of the Information Manager.
-
- Please install the Site Maker now."
-
- When you see this message, click on the No button.
- The HoTMetaL installation will continue to completion.
-
- 4. Using Windows Explorer, go to the "sitemake" folder
- (located in the folder containing the files that you downloaded),
-
- 5. Double-click on setup.exe in that folder to install the Site Maker.
-
- If you need more information, see SoftQuad's Support Center,
- available from http://www.softquad.com/
-
-
- Installer fails on NT systems without 16-bit support
- ====================================================
-
- If your PC is running Windows NT and 16-bit support has
- been removed, the HoTMetaL PRO installation program setup.exe
- will not run. In this case, see SoftQuad's Support Center
- (available from http://www.softquad.com) for an alternative installer.
-
-
- Installer sometimes fails to register DLLs and OCXs
- ===================================================
-
- If the HoTMetaL installer gives you an error message indicating that
- it did not register the required DLL and OCX files, you can complete
- this step by running a script, as explained here:
- - Copy the file fixocx.bat, located in the folder
- containing the files that you downloaded,
- to your Windows system folder (usually windows\system)
- - Choose MS-DOS Prompt from the Programs menu
- - Change directory to the system folder
- - Run the script by typing fixocx.bat
- - If any errors occur, open the script file with a text editor,
- identify the lines that caused the errors (just look for
- the OCX or DLL name that appeared in the error
- message), and enter each of those lines individually at the
- MS-DOS prompt.
